The A.C.E. Award recognizes high school students who have made a dramatic change in the attitude and performance sometime during their high school years, and are eligible for high school graduation. These students have often overcome great physical, emotional or social obstacles, yet few receive recognition. The Exchange Club of Gratiot County is proud to recognize these student's hard work, perseverance, and accomplishments. |

Faith Martinez from Alma High School is the winner of the 2006 A.C.E. Award. Just before the start of her freshman year in high school she was stricken with a swelling of the brain. She lost ability to speak and move and was hospitalized. Doctors did not know if it was encephalitis or meningitis. After lengthy stay in hospital and follow-up of months of rehabilitation she returned to school with the help of tutors and mentors. She was almost a full year behind in school work at one point, but caught up and graduated with her class. She was also selected by the student body to be the Alma High School 2005 Homecoming Queen. |
